In my opinion, this quotation is too psychological. Myths explain natural phenomena. People did not create them as a moral guide. Myths use anthropomorphism to explain human behavior and are useful in the study of human nature, social values, and the origin of customs in the past. They make us realize that most of us have a common past and that we head toward a common destiny. People created myths to understand the world that they lived in because they did not have access to scientific knowledge. However, with our current scientific methods, we should analyze the truth behind these myths. The best explanatory tool for myths is science, not psychology. We can understand the true meaning of our existence only if we are open to receive scientifically validated knowledge. We should abandon old customs and rituals and nurture a scientific perspective, which will provide rational answers to various questions we have about our world.
