What is the main reason why the Mesopotamians traded grain and cloth for metal and stone? Metal and stone did not spoil or tear, but grain and cloth did. Metal and stone drew better prices than grain and cloth in Mesopotamia. Grain and cloth were plentiful in the area, but metal and stone were not. Grain and cloth were lighter to carry on the ships they used to cross the seas.
