Why did Harry Truman represent the United States at the Potsdam Conference? He had been elected president in 1944, defeating Franklin Roosevelt. He had become president after the death of Franklin Roosevelt. He attended on behalf of the United States because Franklin Roosevelt was ill. He had better relations with the other Allies than Franklin Roosevelt.
