Each branch of government has its own specific powers. This is known as separation of powers. Each branch also 'checks' the power of the other two. This is nown as checks and balances. For example the legislative branch (Congress) writes all our laws, but they do
not become official law until the executive (president) signs them. The Supreme Court's job is to interpret laws. If it determines a law
written by Congress and signed by the President is unconstitutional, it has the power to eliminate that law.
The founding fathers divided power in this way for a reason. What is the reason? (two sentences)
