What do you think was the biggest cause of the Great Depression? Why? Could the Depression have been avoided? How?

The biggest cause of the Great Depression was the stock market crash in 1929. It was the longest and deepest economic crisis of that time period. It caused bankruptcy, debt, and large bank loans that could not be liquidated. The Great Depression could have been avoided if factories and farms produced enough goods that people could afford.
