How did the europeans treat the peoples of the "new world?"

The European treated the natives as if they were over them. Coming from their place in history they believed that they were better then others because they were Christian, a belief that reflected the teachings of the Catholic Church at that time. This was wrong and was one of the reasons for the creation of America and the forming of the Protestant church and all of the church’s that came from that.
