In 1898, during the actions of the Cuban independence movement, a big war American ship was anchored on the harbor of Havana City, the capital of the Island of Cuba. On February 15, 1898, the Maine ship was attacked -some say it was a mine- and destroyed the ship, killing 260 people. The United States reacted swiftly and this incident represented the beginning of the Spanish-American War of 1898.
