"The Reynolds Pamphlet had major political and social consequences that affected American politics for decades after it was published. Contained in No. V & VI of “The History of the United States for the Year 1796”, the Reynolds Pamphlet was a defensive article written by Alexander Hamilton to refute the charges and accusations made by the political opposition. In this article he describes the accusations then explains why he claims they are incorrect. While doing this he wrote about an affair he had with a Maria Reynolds, “My real crime is a loose connection with his wife…” leading to a mass disliking of Hamilton by the public. This then leads to his eventual loss while running for president and distrust within the current government. These secrets of a gov. official being revealed to the public in 1796 have now changed the way the public votes and how candidates run."
