The American victory at Saratoga in New York on
October 17, 1777, was a turning point in the
Revolutionary War as it prevented the British from
dividing New England from the rest of the states.
Arnold fought heroically in the field, and played an
important role in the crucial American victory. History
remembers him as a traitor to the American cause.
