How did mountains, desserts, and cities affect the Mesopotamian people and civilization?

The Mesopotamian people lived in a dry climate. The nearest rivers to them were the Euphrates and Tigris river which both surrounded the heart of Mesopotamia. All of the dry desert and climate and harsh geography made it hard for them to travel to trade, to gather food, and etc. So this is why the Mesopotamians built boats, the wheel, and writing. They used the Tigris and Euphrates river to travel by boat and used the wheel to carry cargo. They also used written as a way to communicate which they might've used to communicate with the other cities.
