A filipino contemporary author from outside my region is Miguel Syjuco. He is the son of a Filipino politician of the Philippine House of Representatives.

His first novel Ilustrado was published in 2010. The book is about a young writer who goes in search of the true circumstances of his teacher Crispin Salvador, who apparently died by killing himself. He returns to the Philippines for the quest and gradually describes the chaos and violence inherent in politics in the Philippines in a satirical way. This novel won several prizes in his country, as well as in other nations such as Canada.
