How the electoral college works is the majority of the people voting for one party gets all of the votes for that state. California has a majority of democrats so all 55 votes from California go to Joe Biden. The party with 270 electoral votes or more wins the election. There are democrat states and republican states. So the democrats usually get California. However the republicans usually get Kansas. But the swing states are usually what really determine the winner.
