Hiring out is when the slave owner would lease/rent their slave to someone else and it the system for many reasons. the two main ones are sometimes less than 4% of the time the slaves would change permaninat hands and the second is the person that leased them could set them free or injure them beyond work slaves could also learn bad while at another plantation.
