If you have ever wondered what Andrew Jackson's presidency was like this is the essay for you. In this essay I will discuss Andrew Jackson's presidency and what he did for America, for an example he was a president competing in the Corrupt Election of 1824, he created the Jacksonian democracy, and led the Indian Removal Act.

Before Andrew Jackson was president he was elected because of the corrupt bargain. After the votes were counted in the election of 1824, no one had received the majority of votes although Andrew Jackson was in the lead with John Quincy Adams in 2nd. Hence the election was in the hands of the House of Representatives The House of Representatives elected John Quincy Adams over Andrew Jackson. Everybody thought this was an unfair and corrupt bargain between John Adams and Clay because Clay was a speaker for the House of Representatives. Therefore when the next election came around a large majority of people chose Andrew Jackson. So he won the election and became president for two terms.

In 1828 Andrew Jackson established the Jacksonian Democracy. When he expanded the suffrage that caused people to have more voting rights. The Jacksonian democracy then then had it so that none of the new states entering the Union required white men to own property in order to vote, and by the Civil War all but one of the states had no longer required property requirements.

The Indian Removal Act was applied to the Seminoles because they refused to leave their ancestral lands in Florida, sparking the Second Seminole War in 1835. Seminole chief Osceola led the resistance, which proved costly to the United States in terms of both money and casualties. The US Army emerged victorious and forced remaining Seminoles out of Florida and into the area west of the Mississippi River that became known as Indian Territory.

To sum it up, Andrew Jackson did many things to change the country including competing in the Corrupt Election of 1824, creating the Jacksonian democracy, and leading the Indian Removal Act.

Who was the 7th president of the United States? Well it was Andrew Jackson and there's a lot more to it! Here’s some crazy things he had done and was a part of, Jackson took part in the  Corrupt Election of 1824, and also created the Jacksonian Democracy, and Indian Removal Act. He also happened to be an American Soldier before becoming president, more on that later though. And these topics all happen to be the topics we’re talking about so let's get into it!

Jackson was a part of the Corrupt Election of 1824, although he did not have the majority votes he had the most, yet he still lost! This is what caused the Corrupt Bargain of 1824. That year he was running for president against John Quincy Adams, who happened to be coming in 2nd place. So how did Jackson lose? Since neither had majority votes, and they were decently close in tallies, they had to go to the house of representatives for them to choose the next president. The House of Representatives did not like Andrew Jackson as much, so most of the House of Representatives voted for John Quincy Adams. Even when Jackson had the most votes before going to the House of Representatives. In return John Quincy Adam gave the Head of the House of Representatives a job at the White house, as President. This is what created the Corrupt Bargain. This angered Andrew Jackson and at the next election he went full out, including saying how he had been an American soldier, so he could get more votes. And it ended up working and he became president for the next two terms. To be more specific he served from March 4th 1829 through March 4th 1837.

In 1825 Andrew Jackson created the Jacksonian Democracy and ended up making it last about 30 years! The Jacksonian Democracy was built on the principles of expanded suffrage, Manifest Destiny, Patronage, strict constructionism, and laissez-faire economics. He created the expanded suffrage which caused people to have more voting rights. This also caused that none of the states when entering the Union required white men to have property if they wanted to vote. And By the Civil war none of the states except one had property requirements. There was also a patronage, also known as the spoils system where the President can choose the people he works around in the government. If he wanted someone to have the job, and if they wanted the job. They got the job. Jackson also preferred a hands off approach to the economy which also was part of the opposition of the Federal bank. There was slight good, regarding the not so great. Jackson did not have very much education, although Elites with education were still favors, Jackson did not really care.  

In 1830, Andrew Jackson created the Indian Removal Act, also known as the Trail of Tears. Most white Americans supported this act because it gave many Southerners the chance to expand more. Many Indians were forced to go to lands that Americans choose for them, and make the Natives leave the places they were living. A few of the Indian tribes had gone peacefully, but since they were being forced to leave many resisted the recolonization. It took the fall and winter of 1838 and 1839, and approximately 4,000 Cherokees died during this forced recolonization.  

In the end, Andrew Jackson had done many things for this country. This included participating in The Corrupt Bargain of 1824, creating the Jacksonian Democracy, and creating the Indian removal act.  

the articles of confederation only set up the continental congress at the federal level. there were no executive or judicial branches except within the states. the states were allowed to keep every right that was not specifically given to congress. the bonding of the states was through a 'firm league of friendship' that best served as a defense agreement against invasion. states were not allowed to use taxes as a way to discourage treaties, and states were extremely limited in their dealings with foreign nations.

not many historians today talk about the strengths of the articles of confederation, likely because of how unpopular the document quickly became. the articles did set the legislative body, congress, as the highest power in the nation because of the fear of monarchy. congress had the sole power to declare war, assign treaties, entertain foreign relations, and operate post offices. disputes between states and territorial issues were to be brought to congress. the document also stipulated that canada was allowed to enter the union if they desired.

there were more weaknesses than strengths under the articles of confederation. the lack of power given to the continental congress strangled the federal government. the articles gave congress the power to pass laws but no power to enforce those laws. if a state did not support a federal law, that state could simply ignore it. congress had no power to levy taxes or regulate trade. without a federal court system or executive leader, there would be no way to enforce these laws, either. amending the articles of confederation would also require a unanimous decision, which would be extremely difficult.
