She is a source of fear to all in Wonderland, even though she never actually executes anyone. She keeps barking orders to Alice, who barely keeps up with each new instruction. The Red Queen doubts Alice’s ability to read a book and a map, which Alice does with some success. The Red Queen tells Alice that she needs to reach the eighth square to become queen. This is a difficult task because of the twisted rules of Wonderland. Alice’s struggle to reach the eighth square is one of the main conflicts of the play.
