Why are Makah significant to the history of Washington State? They were the first tribe in the region to extensively use horses for travel and hunting. They were a parent culture and introduced the agricultural and domestication of animals to the area. They traded resources from the gray whale which they hunted along the coast. They were the largest of all tribes in the area and dominated the region for many years.
