According to Ohio Senate Bill 199, which went into effect March 21, 2017, Governor Kasich lifted the blanket prohibition on firearms on college campuses, pending approval by the college’s Board of Trustees. The law maintains the current prohibition preventing concealed handguns on any property owned or leased by a public or private institution of higher education, unless the gun is locked in a motor vehicle. Imagine Ashland University’s student senate petitioning our board of trustees to allow concealed carry on campus, including in this ethics classroom, employing utilitarian justifications in favor of the effort. i confess that there are several parts of this constitution which i do not at present approve, but i am not sure i shall never approve them: for having lived long, i have experienced many instances of being obliged by better information or fuller consideration, to change opinions even on important subjects, which i once thought right, but found to be otherwise. it is therefore that the older i grow, the more apt i am to doubt my own judgment, and to pay more respect to the judgment of others.
