Write a descriptive or analytical report on a twentieth century topic of your choice. Choose ONE of the following research projects for this unit's extended writing assignment. Using the library, the Internet, or other sources, research your selected topic and write a report of at least 750 words.

Research the major functions of the United Nations since its beginning and make a list of five instances in which the UN achieved something positive, or succeeded, and five instances in which the UN failed to have an impact, or was defeated. Then, write a report describing each instance in detail; include an explanation of why each was a success or a failure.
Research the events surrounding the first atomic bomb and write a report. Questions to be answered include:
Who was involved? (i. e. scientists, politicians, etc.)
What were the risks -- both physical and political?
How did President Truman feel about the decision to use the bomb?
Write a biography on ONE of the following leaders:
