As Americans were trying to achieve their goal of westward expansion, along the way towards the west, they crossed paths with the Native Americans that were living in those areas (like the Cherokee, etc). Both sides practically fought about who was going to stay and who was going to leave. Eventually, Americans had forced different tribes of Native Americans off their ancestral homelands, which led to the resentment from Native Americans from the increasing amount of western control.
