How did other soldiers opinions of Doss develop over time

The army said that they personally didn't want anything to do with Doss due to his physical appearance and lack of a soldier type vibe. Their opinion on him obviously changed later because Doss ended up saving 75 soldiers during WWII in the Pacific.
