What impact did the growing demand for labor in the America’s have on justifications for slavery?

In the nineteenth century, the American economy was booming, dynamic, and  had a very high demand for labor, both in the industrial North, and the agricultural South.

This led to some people, including most slaveholders, to justify slavery with the argument that it was a means to fill that labor demand. This argument is obviously immoral because the liberty of a person cannot be constrained in order to meet some labor demand statistic.
