It is somewhat justified because they killed five men. However the people in the crowd were harassing the solders and throwing snow and stones. The red coats panicked and fired at the crowd. If you look at the drawings of the incident, you see the British side of the drawing showing the people of Boston with clubs and weapons, but if you look at Boston's side you see the Solders looking angry and shooting at a 100% innocent crowd. So depending on what side you look at it can vary. But mostly it was the British.
