The king we're talking about here was Francis I, who ruled in France from 1515 to 1547. Francis was thoroughly enamored with the Renaissance, and he commissioned architect Gilles le Breton to remake the medieval Palace of Fontainebleau in Renaissance style as seen in Italy.
