The map also highlights important bodies of water, such as the Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, and Mediterranean Sea. The Silk Road is shown stretching eastward from Babylon through Persia and then to various Central Asian trade centers: Bukhara, Samarkand, Tashkent, Kashgar, Khotan. The Silk Road continues east into the Chinese trade centers of Turpan, Dunhuang, Xian, and finally Luoyang. Other land trade routes branch south of the Silk Road through India and China. Various sea routes extend along the coastal areas.
