The voting age in national elections was lowered to 18 by the 26th amendment in1971. However, members of the Illinois State Legislature believe that citizens are notmature enough to vote until they reach the age of 21.They pass a law declaring thatpeople must be 21 years old to vote in state and national elections in their state. Does Illinois have the power to make this change? Why or why not?
