The colonies were divided by economic and cultural differences, New England, Middle Colonies and Southern Colonies. Some were Royal colonies, some Proprietorships. Many colonists wanted to move west into the Ohio River Valley, and England wanted that land too, but France had occupied it. This led to the War.
