why did Pirates wear eyepatches?(ill mark brainlist of correct and its not because they have a missing eye, this is not a academic question)

They wore it because it was easier to switch the patch to the other eye to see better at night instead of having to wait for their eye to adjust to the change in brightness. Something like that
