Nisei, 2nd generation of Japanese descent, joined the US military to prove their allegiance. One regimental combat team, the 442, was the most decorated RCT in the war. “Go for Broke” was their motto.

It took almost 40 years before a mere 20,000 dollars was paid as reparations to the survivors.

Civil liberties act of 1988 offered a formal apology and approved the $20k reparations money.

Some families spent years finding their relatives as they were split up to various camps across western US.

Long term economic effects felt by many as their businesses were sold for back taxes, buildings confiscated etc. Most had to start over.
