There were many German-Americans and Anglo-Americans at the time but they declared neutrality as Europe wasn't America's problem. Even after the war, foreign intervention became highly unpopular with the American populace and saw no reason to interfere. The Zimmerman telegram and unrestricted submarine warfare had angered the American government but if Germany had not sent the telegram and was more careful with submarine warfare who knows if the US would join in on WW1. It didn't matter about the size of the US active military force because conscription made up for that.
