Jonathan, like the majority of free men in Virginia, was a farmer in the western portion of the state. He lived a modest lifestyle with his wife and two children. Jonathan was uneducated, very poor, and could not afford to purchase his own farmland, so he travelled across town to work for a wealthier plantation owner named Jeffrey Barr. Jonathan hated working for Mr. Barr because he had refused to pay Jonathan his full wages for the last 3 months, claiming that he needed the money to invest in the stock market. While reading the local newspaper, Jonathan found out that the French had begun a revolution of their own. They were wreaking havoc across the countryside, killing thousands, even the king and queen. Jonathan was inspired by the French, dreaming of a day that the common folk of the country could overthrow the distrustful, greedy aristocrat class that ruled over them. He knew that was a dream though. Instead, he focused on making enough money to buy his own land. At least that way, he'd be able to vote in Virginia, which at the time, required voters to own land." What political party would ___ likely align with? Choose ONE (1) of their characteristics/traits that you feel most firmly and accurately represents their political affiliation and explain why.
