29. After being exiled to the island of Elba, Napoleon returned to France to launch a counter-attack on the armies of the Sixth Coalition. This time is known as The Hundred Days because it lasted only a few months. Why would Napoleon’s comeback only last a short time? The French army refused to support a once exiled leader.
Assassins were able to kill Napoleon shortly after his return.
When they saw how he behaved, the French people soon remembered why they had been glad to see him go.
Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo by his enemies, and lost the support of his army.
