Many communities in Africa have to maintain a careful balance between the past and present- between preserving their magnificent history, and allowing for living people to make changes that would ensure a higher standard of living. One such community is Djenne, in the country of Mali. This tension is discussed in this article from the New York Times and in an accompanying video which highlights the famous Mosque of Djenne.
