The U-Boat, or "under cover boat" was a type of ship used by many navies in World War 1. Merchant ships were rebuilt with light armour, and hidden or disguised medium guns, allowing them to pretend to be unarmed freighters until their targets was within range, at which point they would drop the disguise and attack with the advantage of surprise.
