In recent decades, many world historians have challenged the view that the First World War did not differ substantively from previous major wars in world history. All of following support this historical reinterpretation EXCEPT a. despite the carnage caused by the First World War, fighting was confined to western Eurasia and, despite the use of new weaponry, casualties were relatively low as the war lasted only one year.
