Unfortunately, American involvement in WWI had some worrisome indirect effects on the country.  Wilson had warned that if Americans went to war they would “forget the very meaning of the word tolerance,” and intolerance did increase as a result of our involvement in WWI.But despite the fact that World War I had led to some changes progressive wanted, WWI really ended up killing the progressive movement.  In 1920, Wilson decided that the Democrats should make the election a “solemn referendum” on the League of Nations.  Up to this point, Republicans in the Senate had blocked US entry.  Wilson said: Ok, let’s show them at the polls.  Although Wilson himself was not on the ballot anywhere, he did succeed in making the American people think that the big issue in both the presidential and congressional contests was American commitment to the League of Nations.  Result?  The American people said no to the league—electing a conservative Republican, Warren G. Harding rather than the progressive Democratic nominee, Cox.  It wasn’t even close—Harding won by the largest margin of any candidate in American history.  Progressiveness was dead—at least for the moment. So WW1 has had a pretty bad impact on america. hope this helped :)

World War 1 changed America in several different ways. During the war, the industries were having trouble keeping up with the expectations and demands of both the people and the government. With that being said, the salary rates began to skyrocket. Employers were offering over $15 an hour (starting rate) because they couldn't keep up with the demands by themselves. With the high demand of employees, more job opportunities opened up for women and African-Americans (which was a huge advancement at the time). Additionally, the economy went insane. Women became the main population for working in factories, people who had been unemployed were able to hold up a job, and the poor population was able to get on their feet again. However, when the war started to die down and the soldiers started returning to their homes, the economy began to slow down again. A lot of the previously employed women were sent back to their normal lives. However, even after firing a lot of the women, there were still no available positions to a lot of the returning men from Europe. The unemployment rate increased dramatically, and the industries were lagging horribly. After World War 1, America began to transition into a horrible state of living, which was later known as, "The Great Depression".
