Before the beginning of the French and Indian War, the French were the masters of North America. They owned more than half of this new continent, from northern Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. They also had alliances with the majority of Indian tribes. England was jealous of France's possessions in America and tried to take control of their lands. They started this conquest by settling in the valley of the Ohio River from 1749.

France reacted a few years later because they were worried about the progress of England on their territory. In 1952, Langlade, a Franco-Indian soldier, set up an Indian army and destroyed all the buildings of England in the valley of the Ohio River. In 1953, Michelangelo Duquesne de Menneville, leader of the French colonists in America, decided to build forts to ensure the control of the France in this region and avoid England to go back.
