How did the steam locomotive and steam powered paddleboat impact both trade and transportation within the united states?

We were able to move from place to place easier than ever before. This helped with trade, so we could deliver goods more efficiently, while it helped with transportation so we didn't have to take so long of a tiring journey anymore.
