How is john d. rockefeller and andrew carnegie different?

Carnegie was not as ruthless and driven as Rockefeller. Carnegie hired hatchet men to do his dirty work. Carnegie accumulated a vast fortune and quit the steel business. He spent the rest of his life as a philanthropist. John D. Rockefeller was a driven, monomaniacal man. He wanted control of the entire US petroleum industry. He crushed his competitors often with illegal schemes. He was a lifelong deacon in a Baptist church so he tended to see things in simple white and black categories. Of course, he was white and righteous. All the people who stood in his way were enemies and merchants of chaos.
