The Black Panther Party was a black, socialist and revolutionary nationalist organization active in the United States between 1966 and 1982.

In its beginnings, in October 1966, its main activity was to form patrols of armed citizens to monitor the behavior of police officers, and thus challenge the police brutality against African-Americans in Oakland, California, in demonstrations that exemplified the idea of Black Power. In 1969, it established social programs aimed at the community, which became the main activity of the party. The most famous were free breakfasts for children and local health clinics.
