Tehran conference reunited U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin. World War II was in progress and they discused the idea of opening a "second front" in western Europe. Churchill wanted to attack from the Mediterranian, through Italy. Roosevel and Stalin objected this idea, they wanted to invade from northern France since Germany's defenses were not very strong there.

The main reason Churchill's strategy, was based on the idea that Mussolini was weak so the campaign through Italy would be quick, he also wanted to extend British influence in south east Europe.
