Differentiate between american foreign policy during the isolationist period and foreign policy during the cold war

During the first years of World War I, the US government adopted an isolationist policy, which consisted of remaining neutral regarding all military activities that were going on in Europe. This position came to an end when a number of US commercial ships were sunk by German naval units in 1917. This prompted the entrance of the United States to the War.

During the years of the Cold War, which started after the Second World War ended in 1945 and ended with the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, the US government was very active regarding foreign affairs. This happened as a response in order to neutralize the spread of Communism around the world by the Soviet Union.
