Record your second hypothesis: who was primarily responsible for the cold war - the united states or the soviet union?

According to many historians, both the US and the USSR were responsible for the Cold War, which lasted from 1945 to 1991. As a result, there was a division of Berlin and Germany, the Korean War, the Space Race, etc. Cold War sparked at the Yalta Conference when it was discussed how Germany would be divided. Nevertheless, it seems that the SSSR was more responsible for imposing communism in the countries of Eastern Europe, creating the Iron Curtain between the east and the west, "From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, Iron Curtain spread across the continent," as Churchill stated. America, on the other hand, could not calmly observe the expansion of communism in Europe, because capitalism was not imposed in western countires, it was their choice, while the eastern countries could not choose, Stalin imposed communism in order to expand ideas of the Communist Revolution.

since most of current immigration into the u.s., both legal and illegal, is coming from latin america. it would be very difficult to imagine or rationalize a country my fellow citizens are trying desperately to flee into, would pose a threat to my prosperity or freedom. since the u.s. has a long history of intervention, but no record of permanent occupation, i would not feel oppression is the main objective.  

the largest free trade nation, along with the largest gdp in the world wanting to expand it's economic policy on us, and including us, could only be positive. the u.s. government has no interest in, or way of simply forcing american culture on us. and has no track record of it. other nations that adopted american social culture, or "americanization" did so voluntarily, mainly through the choice of allowing american businesses and u.s. citizens to come into their nations, as free operatives.
