He was a Spanish Conquistador and explore who defeated the Aztec empire and then claimed mexico for spain. He first set sail when he was 19 and then in he later joined an expedition to Cuba. In 1518 he set off to explore mexico.

Hernan Cortes was a spainard. In 1511, Cortes took part in an invasion of the americas. Cortes was born in the province of Etramurda, Spain. Hernan Cortes went on many voyages. He is known to have fought Montezuma, the Aztec Cheif. Hernan Cortes defeated Montezuma.AS a teenager, cortes had the choice of: Lawyer Pritest, or Soilder. His parents picked lawyer, but cortes picked soilder. in 1504, he set out for hispaniola. His courage impressed his comannder, who gave cortes control over several ntive american villages. Six years later, small pox swept acrroooss  Cuba, killing tousands of the native americans living there.  When cortes arrived, the Aztec empeorer was Montezuma II.
