In 1869, two railroads met in Utah, linking the Atlantic and the Pacific for the first time.

The president of the union pacific and his counterpart in the central pacific met in Utah in 1869, with a ceremonial driving of the last spark into a rail line that links their railroads.  

This event was significant in US history because the rail line that connects their railroad made it possible for the western bound travelers to travel through the transcontinental railroad. The completion of the railroads also unifies the United States.

Before the completion, the western bound travels were subjected to different forms of hardship during their journeys. They traveled by wagon train and this makes their journey so dangerous and also takes a long time to reach their destination but the completion of the transcontinental railroad redefined the face of railway transportation in the United States.

The transcontinental railroad changed America in so many ways;  it made it possible for the public to broadly sell their products, it boost commerce on a larger scale and also helps in the creation of a new version of Amazon.
