The sans-culottes were the common people of the lower classes of France during the Revolutionary years. Many of these people became militant partisans of the war because of their terrible quality of life during the Ancien Régime. These people were the popular driving force of the revolution. One of their most important requests was the implementation of price controls to ensure affordable essentials.
