  His vision was to allow everyone to have access to poetry and be  able to linguistically( understand the language)  interpret it during the middle ages. It was neither obedient to the church whose official language is Latin or to the court whose official language was French. Chaucer's wrote in  ordinary dialect of English spoken in London during his era. This poetry was more accessible and helped calm the people during the black plague.
