The seneca falls convention of 1848 was the beginning of an organized movement by women to reach equality in the united states. in 1920, the nineteenth amendment to the u. s. constitution provided women the right to vote in national elections. the women's movement continued to work toward economic and social equality, making great progress in the "second wave" of feminism in the 1960s and 1970s. however an equal rights amendment has not yet been ratified in the united states. many feel that the women's movement in the u. s. has achieved most of its most important goals and therefore there is lessmotivation to work hard for further gains. others feel that women still suffer serious discrimation in many areas of life in the united states and that much progress is still badly needed. what are most important and immediate needs of women in today's world?
