its seems to be set in Germany.. possibly after the end of WW2 during which the cold war was happening, and with that i feel its the time when Germany was split between the USA and Soviet Russia. The tensions were palpable and many times both sides had tanks staring down each other from either side of the German cut border..

To me it shows how both sides refused to kneel and shows how the tensions were atrociously thin..
