Why do some experts argue that a paid, volunteer fighting force is actually not more expensive than maintaining the fighting forces with draftees? Those who think troops are getting paid more do not understand the principal of inflation. The short enlistment periods of draftees actually cost the military more in training and turnover. The current military forces are actually getting paid less than troops of earlier generations. With more fighting troops from a draft, military engagements would be shorter and cheaper.
