How did the way in which the Soviet Union and the United States divided Korea affect each country's government?

The Societ Union and the United States divided Korea by influencing the Korean War. The US supported South Korea as North Korea adopted communist theory by China and the USSR. Korea is now separated by the DMZ and is currently at a stalemate position, having South Korea having a democratic government, while North Korea has a full on totalitarian dictatorship.
